The Basics on selecting, quoting and purchasing your fence or railing materials:

Overview:

Our staff at Vinyl-Warehouse.com is dedicated to helping you through every step, from selecting the proper style and color to fit your needs and tastes, down to helping you assemble an accurate list and quote for the materials. Our staff of professionals will help you gather everything needed for your project without taking any shortcuts.

One common mistake that should be avoided, is trying to base your quote off a simple lineal footage of your property. This guesswork almost never works, and can wind up costing a lot more than you bargained for in the end. If you are unsure or have any questions, we are here to help. Let one of our professionals assist you, and ensure that you’re getting everything you’ll need the first time.

Below are some instructions and tips for getting started:

  1. Open and print the schematic drawing shown above. You’ll find this to be a very useful tool that will help you understand how to breakdown the necessary components needed for an accurate material list, and quote.
  2. Measure your property, and remember: check all property lines, and check with your town for accurate requirements and boundaries prior to quoting or purchasing.
  3. Select the Style(s) of fence, Picket Configuration (if available), Height(s) and Color(s) of the fence you desire. Write these down on your drawing, which should be drawn similar to our schematic example.
  4. Place Gate(s) where needed in fence line, and remember to deduct the size of the gate(s) from the total lineal footage of fencing.
  5. Layout Posts using the example schematic and remember:
    • Line Posts for use when fence sections will be passing straight thru.
    • Corner Posts for use when there is a 90 degree or right angle turn.
    • 3-Way Posts for use when three continuous runs are intersecting.
    • End Posts for use at the end of a run or in between gate openings.

Please note that most of our DuraShield Vinyl Fence Sections are 8’ wide but some are only available in 6’ wide, and all Alumi-Guard Aluminum Fence Sections are sold as 6’ wide only.

Most Fence sections can be easily trimmed down on site, so remember to round up when calculating the amount of sections needed based on a lineal footage.

8’ Wide Example: A 92’ (foot) run will require (12) 8’ wide sections. 11 sections will be full length and 1 section will need to be trimmed down on site to finish the full 92’ run.

6’ Wide Example: A 92’ (foot) run will require (16) 6’ wide sections. 15 sections will be full length and 1 section will need to be trimmed down on site to finish the full 92’ run.
